Kylie's birth story

Happy Birthday, Kylie! In honor of Kylie's birthday, I will recount her birth story for you. One year ago, right now, I was wondering what was happening with the coming baby. At 9:44 PM, I handed Mike some ice cream and felt the baby drop. Mom was staying with us and told us to go to the hospital, but I wasn't sure if that's what I felt, and we had just gotten a $500 hospital bill from Memorial Day weekend, so I didn't want to rush to the hospital for nothing. However, in hind site, I realize that being 4 days overdue, they wouldn't have made me leave the hospital. Oh well... At about 9:55, I had a contraction....the same kind I had been having for at least a week, so I didn't think anything was happening. However, at 10:02 I had a hard contraction and we started moving. We were in the driveway at 10:15, rushed to the hospital, and arrived around 10:35. Mike rushed in for a wheelchair, and I barely got into it from the truck. We rushed upstairs, and Mike said that I was alerting the entire hospital that we were there with my labor siren. They barely got me entered in the computer, if that, and rushed me to the back. They rushed me to the initial room to get me ready and then rushed to the delivery room. I was ready to push, but there was no doctor! Mine was 15 minutes away, another one at the hospital was in a c-section, but they finally found someone. As soon as they found her, I pushed twice and Kylie was born...at 10:55!! It was soooo fast! We are so thankful for you, Kylie! We love you!

Tomatoes!!

I was given 12 tiny tomato plants a few months ago and I planted them all in one pot....this round pot. I learned that the pot was way too small, so Mike had some planters built for me. So I ended up with 2 plants in this round pot. See how tall they are now!?

We finally got a ripe tomato! Hannah was so excited and couldn't wait to eat it!

plants in those planters, but so far we've picked 3 tomatoes, 2 of which Hannah ate all by herself. I've counted over 30 still on the vine. I hope I get to eat some once they're ripe! :)

After a high speed dash to the WS Forsyth Hospital, Kylie Mirella arrived at 10:55pm 6.18.2010!!!!

The most interesting part of the story thus far was that we were standing in the driveway at 10:15pm... 15 minute drive... 10-15 minutes to get from the car to the triage room to the delivery room...

Kim made sure that everyone was able to know we were on the way and needed a clear path by using the labor siren... I have a great imitation, maybe I will record it and post it later... If you recall Harry & the Henderson's and the ambulance scene then you have a good idea!

So 5 minutes later we had 8 nurses coming in and out and no doc. anywhere to be found... one in a C section and the other 15 minutes eta from a birthday party. They found a doc to pinch hit and she did great... Dr. Stilley I believe... we only knew her for 10 minutes and then our doc arrived.

Two Days and Counting

Hannah started wearing panties yesterday. :) She had about 4 accidents yesterday, but slept through her 2-hr nap and stayed dry. Today, she started telling me that she had to go potty and only had 1 accident....which was probably my fault. When she woke up from her nap, she was crying like she wanted to go back to sleep, so I left her alone for a few minutes. Finally I realized that her cry was different, and when I went to check on her I asked what she was doing. She said, "I crying." :) When I asked why she said, "I pottied on Elmo blanket!" She was standing up and had pottied right there, and was so upset that she had gotten Elmo blanket wet. :( So, if I had gone upstairs when she first woke up, she probably wouldn't have pottied in her bed at all.

At church tonight, she told them 4 times that she had to go potty and finally did once. The thing is that she hasn't gone poo-poo since yesterday morning, but she was trying to this afternoon. I'm afraid of what I'll find in the morning. Hopefully she can make it and go on the potty in the morning. My baby is growing up!!!

The Vacuum Cleaner

So, evidently I haven't vacuumed in awhile.....at least not while Hannah was awake. I was going to vacuum the bathroom today while she was sleeping, but I cleaned the cabinets under the sink instead. So tonight after dinner I pulled out the vacuum and before I started vacuuming the bathroom I asked Hannah if she wanted to watch. She said yes, and when I turned it on, she had gotten Daddy to watch with her. She wouldn't come into the bathroom while I had it on. After thoroughly cleaning one section, I started moving things to clean another section and I moved her Fisher Price barn. She was very concerned that it was in the wrong place, but she sat down to play with it anyway. When I turned the vacuum on, she got up and left. I didn't think anything of it, but I did hear her say, "Daddy, up!" Well, I finally caught on when I moved to the next little section. I was vacuuming and turned around to see Mike holding her and tears were streaming down her face! She was thoroughly scared of the vacuum! So Mike showed her how it worked and got her laughing, but the minute it was on and he put her down, she started crying! Poor thing. Each time I turned it off after that she would come in and say, "Mommy done!" but I had to say no because I had a little bit left. I have never seen her so scared of anything! Poor baby. I should have guessed something was up last week when we were at the shoe store near closing time and a lady was vacuuming. Hannah wanted to know what that noise was, so we had to go watch her vacuum. Hannah acted like she had never seen a vacuum, and when I think about it, it's probably been months since she's seen me vacuum. Oh well. I guess I'll be doing that more in front of her from now on! :)

The baboons had a new baby. He would try to run off or climb a rock and the mother would pull him by the leg until he was right beside her again. It was so cute to watch the mother disciplining the child.

One day, as I was putting Hannah in her carseat, I noticed she was saying "eyes" over and over. At first I wondered if someone was hiding in our garage and she could see their eyes. So I decided to check it out. When I looked out her window I tried to see what she saw. Do you see anything that looks like eyes?

Potty

Tonight I sat Hannah on the potty and said, "Go potty," and I went in to start her bath water. In no time at all, she came walking into the little bathroom with the tub. (For those of you not familiar with my house, we have a little bathroom with just a tub and toilet inside a larger bathroom where the sinks and laundry area are.) She hadn't gone potty so I sat her back down and said, "You need to go potty." Very soon she came running back in. I said, "Sit down and go potty," and I turned to check on her bath water. When I turned back around she was squatting on the carpet going potty!!!!! Well, she did what I said....she sat and pottied! Does this mean that she can potty on command now??

Is it worth going on vacation if you have to come home to invaders in your house? While we were gone, a mouse or two decided to make a nice home for themselves in our bathroom cabinets! (We did catch 2 soon after we came home. Yuk!) Because I don't want Hannah getting into the mess, I'm having to clean it up when she's in bed. (Since she hardly took a nap today, I've been working on it tonight.) So far I've gotten through 2 sections. I'm having to disinfect everything and throw away a lot! One good thing is coming about from all of this. It was time to go through and purge but I hadn't brought myself to do it yet. It was low on a long list of things to do. So, now I'm getting rid of a bunch of stuff I haven't used in ages and I have so much more space! So, thank you mice!

A lot of catching up

I realize that I have a lot of catching up to do. However, all of these pictures have taken place in the past 3 days!

Mike was mowing the yard and she wanted to "ride." So Mike took her for a ride. Don't worry! He went slowly and didn't have the blade going.

Grandpa Bowers brought Hannah and me an iced oatmeal cookie sandwich. Here is Hannah enjoying her first bite. Yum! She even asked for it by name. "Cook - ie!"

Every day Hannah asks for bubbles. Yesterday we went out on the deck for some bubble fun. I had to fill up our bubble dog with bubbles, so then Hannah thought that she needed to do it, too!

I got a picture of all 4 of us in the reflection of the sliding glass door...Hannah, me, the bubble dog, and our cat Zach, who was really on the other side of the door. Hannah was trying to fill me up with bubbles.

The other day, I showed Hannah how to drink the milk left in her bowl after eating cereal. Then yesterday she was eating her cereal when I left the room for a minute. When I came back, this is what I found. She had milk all down the front of her!

She had just finished feeding herself applesauce when I took this picture. She really loved dipping her fingers into it and licking them off instead of using a spoon. :)

Hannah's black eye

Hannah fell down a couple of steps on Sunday and landed on her face! She had a red spot under her left eye that showed up later that day. By Monday morning that whole spot was gone and she has a scab on the left side of her nose! It's really weird! Poor baby!

Hello from up here! We have been in Newfoundland, Canada for the past week+ and will be heading home on Monday. Except for the first two days, it has been cold, but it is beautiful! The Smoke Detector Update

This morning the smoke detectors went off again, so Mike went and bought a new one. He had replaced all the batteries yesterday because he thought they were going dead, but evidently that wasn't the problem.

Keetha, I thought the same thing yesterday...that all the BEEEEEEPS!!! were blanking out cuss words....but I decided to post it anyway. LOL! :)

Beeps in the Night

Beeps......that's not a strong enough word. Screaming, high-pitched BEEEEEEEEEEEPS! is more like it. BEEEEEEEEEEEP!!! They pound in your head BEEEEEEEEEEEP!!! and won't stop BEEEEEEEEEEEP!!! and you're trying to figure out how you ended up downstairs BEEEEEEEEEEEP!!! when you were just in bed! BEEEEEEEEEEEP!!! How BEEEEEEEEEEEP!!! did I get BEEEEEEEEEEEP!!! down here? BEEEEEEEEEEEP!!! What in the world BEEEEEEEEEEEP!!! is going on? BEEEEEEEEEEEP!!! Why BEEEEEEEEEEEP!!! can't I think? BEEEEEEEEEEEP!!!

Mike and I were awakened at 5:30 this morning to ALL of the smoke detectors going off. We are in Manteo trying to get the beach house ready to rent and were sleeping quite soundly when all of a sudden all 8 smoke detectors started beeping. We did have enough sense to look or snif around to see if there was a fire or smoke, but nothing! Worst of all, we couldn't reach any of the smoke detectors, so we're running around the house looking for anything to stand on. We just got furniture in the house 2 weeks ago and I didn't really want to stand on it. And we didn't have a step-stool or anything. Mike finally got a bucket to stand on and got one of them off the wall. Still beeping...screaming....aaaahhhh!!!! I pulled a swivel chair across the master bedroom and used it to climb on the dresser so that I could reach the smoke detector. However, I didn't know what to do once I got to it! So I climbed down and went to find Mike. He was coming upstairs with a ladder that he got from the basement. He told me what to do and while he went after one in another bedroom, I climbed up again. As soon as I touched it, all the beeping stopped. Mike had gotten the other one off and all was quiet. We just looked at each other like....what in the world!?

Some of you may be wondering about Hannah during all of this. She sleeps in her own little room next to ours with the door closed. We're thinking, great...it's 5:30 in the morning, Hannah's going to wake up and there will be no more sleep today.... On a side note, did any of you see a news program (like 60 Minutes) a couple of years ago that did a piece on sleeping children and smoke detectors? They said that kids don't hear them when they're asleep. We thought at the time, yeah, right. Well, we're here to say that it is true! Hannah slept peacefully through the whole thing! There were at least 3 smoke detectors screaming right outside her door and she didn't even move! It was such a strange morning! To top things off, once we did get back to bed and just started to drift off, a huge crow sat outside our window yelling at something. I couldn't help but to think about what I would say on my blog......

Hannah's 1st Birthday

Hannah's 1st birthday was on Friday, April 10th, and we had her party outside on the new deck on Saturday the 11th. She had so much fun.....and got sunburned! The sun reflected off of her high chair, I guess, and burned her little arms. They've finally stopped peeling, I think, but still look red. :( We had friends and family over for hamburgers and hot dogs and an Easter egg hunt.

Sorry the pictures are in reverse order. I didn't plan ahead like I normally do.....

Hannah loved opening her presents. She even enjoyed "reading" the cards! :)

Hannah is "drinking" out of a cup with a straw. She didn't know how to do that yet but she loved this cup!

The lamb was definitely a favorite. Before we went on to the next present, we gave them to Jon to keep track of. When we gave him this lamb, Hannah gave him "the look." She wasn't sure what he was going to do with her precious lamb!

Hannah loved her birthday cake! She dug right in!

I actually made Hannah's birthday cake (with Mom's help. She smoothed out the white icing and I did the rest.)

Here is Hannah eating a hamburger. It's a huge burger and she ate half of it!

Hannah liked chewing on her large tomato slice. It didn't matter that I had cut up half of it. She wanted to chew on the big piece! :)

Some things about Hannah.....

She can say "apple," "ball," "daddy," "hi" and "yucky." She used to say "kitty" and "Zach" (the cat's name) but she hasn't in a while.
She is just starting to cruise but is really good at crawling! She stood by herself yesterday!
She can point to your mouth, nose and eye and say "eye" when she points to your eye. :)
She can sign "milk," "more," "I'm hungry," "night, night," and wave "bye, bye."
She loves to "talk" on the phone.
She loves to push buttons.
She can feed herself with a fork. She will stab at her food with a fork until something sticks and then can put it in her mouth. Her hands still work the best for getting food into her mouth.
Her favorite food is yogurt.
Her favorite toy is any bath toy! Or phone! Or anything with buttons!
She has 4 teeth....the 2 front teeth on the bottom and 2 "fangs" on top!

I'm sure there's more important things that I'm forgetting right now, but it's late and I think I'll go to bed. I still can't believe that my baby is one!!!!

Yep! Hannah is finally getting a tooth! She's 10 1/2 months old and we thought they'd never come in! When she went to bed last night, there was no tooth. When I got her up this morning, there was a tooth! Yay Hannah! :)

Hannah is crawling! This is the best video I have of Hannah crawling. (She just started really crawling on Saturday.) Unfortunately, she was really crying. It was time for a nap and she wanted me to pick her up but I wouldn't because I wanted her to crawl. So, the crying. Please turn your volume down. :) You may notice the diaper bag on the floor. She had spent about half an hour emptying the contents onto the floor. I had mini Reese's cups in there and she would pull one out and I would take it away. Then she'd pull out another one and I would take it. She would look at me as if to say, "That's ok...there's another one in here!" :) She's so much fun! [Ok, so it only uploaded a picture, not the video, so I'll try again.]

4-month doctor visit

I forgot to post about Hannah's 4-month doctor's visit.....so I'll do it now that she's 5 months old! :) Hannah weighed 17 lb 2 oz and was 25 inches long on August 21! That puts her in the 90th percentile for weight and 80-85th percentile for height!

Cubs Games

Last weekend Hannah and I drove up to Cincinnati to meet my family for a couple of Cubs games....Cubs v. Reds. The Cubs lost the first one but won the second. Go Cubbies!!

Tummy Time

Hannah isn't too sure about tummy time yet. When she gets tired of holding her head up, she cries because she doesn't know she can lay it on the Boppy! This tummy time episode on the Boppy lasted all of 4 minutes before she started crying!

Hannah has now started lifting her feet when she's on her tummy. How cute!

This was before church on Sunday. Hannah is modeling one of her new Sunday dresses. Her dad, who doesn't like the hats, actually put this one on her when he got her dressed! :)

During my breakfast, Hannah enjoyed "reading" a book that Grandma Newell got her. The facing page has a picture of Hannah in her bathtub. She was thoroughly enjoying this book!

Doctor visit

Hannah had her first sick visit with the doctor today. She has a cough, congestion and goo coming out of her eye. She has a little fluid behind her ears, too, so she's on amoxicillin. We did find out that she weighs 14 lbs 10 oz which puts her at about the 90th percentile! What a little chunk! :)

Now that school is over (and I don't have to go back for at least a year) :) I can get back to blogging. I am hurt, though, that I haven't had 75 comments wondering where I am - like the ones we left Kevin....I'll get over it! :)
