Kia - One Year Later
One year ago today, Kia was hit or run over by a car or something bigger. We didn't see it happen, so we don't know the details, but it was pretty bad. She was black and bloody all over. Her lungs were one big bruise and if any ribs had been broken she probably would have died. The doctor said she was lucky to be alive. She ended up spending a week in the vet hospital recuperating, and when she came home we couldn't let her get excited because the blood clots in her lungs could have released and killed her!
It was awful around the house with no Kia. Zach, the cat, went around the house meowing for her, wondering where she was. Mike would lay on her bed at night for a few minutes, missing her. We caught a glimpse of what life will be like without Kia, our dog-der...get it...like daughter :)...and we didn't like it. She is our baby and someday we will miss her greatly.
I thought I'd post a few pictures from a year ago and now so you can see how far she's come. We're thankful every day we have Kia in our lives.
Kia....a few days before she was hit....she looks like this now. :)
Day 5 in the hospital and getting better.... she has a cut under her eye and her left front paw is really red, raw and cut up.... Her mouth was pretty torn up...
Mike said that before Kia was sewn up, the hole in her side was big enough to put a half-dollar in.
She was hurt but happy to be home!

Easter Weekend
Our amazing cook....Mom (or Ruby) :)
Mike and his sister, Sherri, enjoying the meal...and pound cake!
This is a puzzle that Sherri, Ruby and I started.... (It's the picture on the box.)
...four hours later when I was leaving for home...
...aaaaaaaahhhhhhhh!!!!!!! This is the most frustrating puzzle I've ever tried to put together. Good luck finishing it, Ruby! :)
From right to left...Mike, his brother Scotty and Scotty's son Corey watching fishing.

Spring Break '07
I finally get a Spring Break! This is the 9th year that I've lived in NC and the 1st time I've gotten a week-long Spring Break! Usually we just get the Friday and Monday around Easter. So, this year Mike and I went to the Outer Banks for a couple of days. We're staying at his brother's house. It was supposed to be cold with severe thunderstorms today, but fortunately, it was mostly sunny and 80 today! It was beautiful! Here are some pictures from the fun we had today....
We happened upon a little po-dunk restaurant in Nags Head today and it is our favorite by far. I had the blackened tuna sandwich with strawberries and goat cheese (pictured below). It was delicious!

Kia loves to play on the beach! She was so excited!

Old Salem
Today we went to Old Salem to walk around and see the houses and learn about the history of the Moravians. When the Moravians came over to the states, they built the town of Salem and only Moravians could live there.
Mom and Kevin in front of the covered bridge where we crossed over to the past.....
Rachel and Aunt Tara as we were waiting to eat lunch at the Salem Tavern....we were teasing Rachel about the woman on the other side of the window watching her....
We were waiting on Mom to get out of a book shop.... Rachel was smacking Uncle Kevin on the head with her new fan.
Rachel, Tara, Mom and I took a carriage ride with Rusty the horse pulling us. When Mom said she was from Marion, IN, the guy driving asked if we were Wesleyans! He attends a Wesleyan church in the area and said that Tom Kinnan was preaching a revival a few years back and he renewed his walk with Christ. What a small world!
It's not a stuffed animal! :)
....at God's Acre...this is where all the Moravians from Old Salem were buried.
Can you see Dad in the background?
We went inside this church, the Moravian Home Church, which was built in 1800.
It was a beautiful day today! The afternoon started out in the 60s and then warmed up quite nicely! We had a great time! :)
